The smell of cinders and smoke is part of my earliest memories, since my first home was the upstairs apartment of the Burlington depot in Pleasant Dale, NE. Yes, my dears, they were still using steam engines back then. When my family took the Durango-Silverton trip on the narrow gauge railroad, I caught one lung-full and it all came back! This trip is gorgeous, and this guidebook interprets and explains all you see, from the geologic formations, to the historic mining, to the rock that Butch and Sundance jumped off in the movie.
