3.5 Stars

I saw a lot of my friends loved this one. I didn't.
For numerous reasons.
I got my copy from my digital library. It quickly became apparent it is a Very Old copy!
There was no table of contents nor 'About This Book' in my kindle copy.
So navigation was impossible.
There were numerous and assorted editing errors.
There was an overabundance of repetition that almost had me dnf'ing many times.
There were times the dialog and actions were juvenile and cheesy.
There was many times the writing became Overly Wordy.
It ended very abruptly.
So I really had a hard time finishing this, but I was determined.

With all those negatives I will say it was an interesting premise.
There was a lot of action and suspense.
The main characters could have been better, but they did have my attention.
Most of the intimate scenes were adult and steamy.
I did connect to them somewhat, just not to a point that it really 'Moved' me.
The world build was interesting.
There were other side characters that were also very interesting and helped me connect more to the story.

I will probably read the next story in this series, but not anytime soon.
I just hope when I do that my library copy is the updated version!

I enjoyed this start to LD's new series. Yes it's similar to Lora Leigh but it's not like only one person can tell each sort of story. The plot made sense, the heat level between the two main characters was good. Looking forward to the rest of the series. ( )

Aside from all the romance going on in the book, I am actually still thinking about New Species, their existence and real life consequences of it all. It's quite an interesting thought excercise. ( )

Epigraph
Dedication
To Mr. Laurann, who always supported my writing even when I used to do it on an ancient word processor. He never complained about my late nights typing away or thought it was silly to write stories just because it made me happy. I wrote my first book in 1993, continued to write dozens more of them over the years in my free time, and this series is one that became an obsession of mine when I started it in 2001. I didn't even consider getting published until 2009.
This is also to the readers who sent me many emails asking what I used to write, because it made me go back, re-read those books I'd written in the past and salvage this series. I'd also like to thank my wonderful editors, Pamela Campbell and Shannon Combs. They have taught me so much, continue to believe in me, and are an endless source of support. Last but not least, my thanks to everyone at Ellora's Cave for giving an unknown author a chance. Dreams really do come true!

"Shit," Ellie muttered under her breath, watching the man restrained against the wall inside the next room.
