Weak effort at YA fiction by Hiaasen, who is capable of such much more. Wahoo Cray lives with his parents; his father is an animal wrangler and has numerous snakes, gators, etc living in his backyard. Struggling financially, his dad takes a job working for a reality TV show: Expedition Survival and they are joined by a girl (named Tuna) from Wahoo's school, who is avoiding her abusive father. A narrow escape from the Cray's alligator, encourages the star of the TV show to go into the wild for real, and then Tuna's dad creates some serious havoc. ( )

I really enjoy Hiaasen's Florida-centric fiction. This one, like is typical for YA works, features a family with dysfunctional adults who have to be supervised by the teens in their lives. Aside from that, the adventure is wild and wacky, a quick and entertaining read.

Wahoo is hands down one of my favorite leading lads. For such a young boy, he is remarkably caring and his concern extends not just to his friends and family, but those in need, no matter if they are two, four, or more legged. Speaking of the two-legged variety…our friend Tuna is a special gal too, though her life has been turbulent in far more dire ways than Wahoo’s; considering he basically lives in a wildlife rehabilitation center, that’s REALLY saying something. Let’s just say Tuna’s Dad is WAY less than worthy of the title. Thank goodness Wahoo and his dad are there to lend a hand…even if things do get a wee more than dicey as the story moves along.

Rolling along with the river ripples, we would be negligent if we left out the team that is Extreme Survival…mainly shining the spotlight on Derek of course. He’s the STAR of the show. You know, the main man, the top banana, the one who actually does all the survival practices that are showcased on his amazing show…or wait, maybe not. He manages to tick off the semi-friendly croc that resides at the Cray’s residence and get “attacked” by a bat…which if you know anything about wildlife, you know their bites carry A LOT of disease...QUITE entertaining in this case. ^-^

It’s a deceptively hard hitting book with an ending satisfying on many levels. The writing allows readers to visit Florida without ever driving South. Inside the pages you’ll get swept away by the danger the Everglades and the people in them have to offer, caught up in the emotions, revel in the respect shown for animals and habitats (by most at least) and cheer on the good guys when the cheering is good. There’s a little something for every reader whether boy or girl, young or young at heart, and a few valuable lessons to walk away with as well.

Chomp is about this boy named wahoo and a dad named Mickey. Mickey is guy who have just recently ate a lizard. So at this moment, Mickey feels sick. Wahoo and his parents own a zoo in his back yard. He’s got all types of animals in his backyard. Monkeys, raccoons, alligators, you name it. Wahoos Family is broke. So Wahoos mother has to go to China. A TV show calls wahoo and ask if they can use some of there animals in there show. The show is called EXPIDITION SURVIVAL! Featuring Derek Badger. Derek has an assistant, her name is Raven. Raven goes and inspect Wahoos and Mickeys backyard. Wahoo and Mickey get the job buts there’s just one thing. Derek Badgers show is just a fraud. Everything in that show is fake even “ surviving in the woods ALONE. “ As soon they get done recording he goes to the most fanciest hotel that is around him. The first scene they do is Derek attacking a Aligator. The aligators name is Alice and she’s a real lazy one. Derek was “ attacked “ by a lazy alligator. It turned out to them to be an amazing “ footage.” This time Derek wanted it to be full time REAL. Raven was getting real nervous. They go to Walmart to get food. They were going to the Ever glades. While Wahoo and his father was getting food, they were stopped by one of Wahoos friends, Tuna. Tuna wanted to go with them. Tuna is girl who haves a terrible life. Tunas father is an acoholic. Tuna asked her father who didn’t care if she went with Wahoo. They finish paying and drive to the Ever Glades. The second scene they did was with Derek attacking a Un trained snake. And yes, it was real. Derek ended up getting him self bitten. Thank gosh, it wasn’t poisonous. The next scene they did was now Derek “ jumping off an air plane “ blind folded. Guess what? When they filmed that part it was a women who jumped off the plane. NOT derek. Tuna was getting so upset she actually thought this show was real. Another scene, that ended up with a twist was Derek getting bitten by a bat. The thing is, there shouldn’t be a bat in the script. The bat bites Dereks tongue and with the help with Mickey, he was saved. But... the next morning Derek ran away. He stole an air boat and went off thinking he is going to be turned into a Vampire because he watched a show that happened the exact same thing that happened to him. Days passed by looking for Derek. Then another thing happened. Tuna's father stopped by... with a pistol in hand. He ended up shooting a guy named link when he was in a air boat with tuna and wahoo. They drove away as fast it happened. Tuna's dad, Jared used Mickey as a driver to find his daughter. Jared stoled some beer from a shop and put a gun right against Mickeys neck. They drove around looking Tuna. Tuna and Mickey was driving and found Derek. Apparently Jared shot him also. They stopped some where to get some rest and apperently Jared found them. Tuna told her father the cops were coming. Jared wanted Mickey to drive him and his daughter somewhere so they can escape. Mickey stood against him and got himself shot in the toe. Tuna tried stalling but it evenutally stopped. Mickey had to try driving but his foot hurt so bad. Then a chopper came. Everyone was saved and Jared was taken to jail. Everyone was fine and the show continued on. Jared ended up getting a life sentence in jail. Mickey told him " Dont worry. Just tell your mother that alice bit my toe. " And that was the story of Wahoo and his crazy summer.

This is book is amazing! I seriously love everything about this book!! ( )
