The Harmony volumes are British publications, and as such, use some terminology not familiar to US knitters. All terms, however, are define and illustrated. This 1988 Collins & Brown imprint is the same text as the 1987 "Harmony Guide to Knitting Stitches, Volume 2" published by Lyric Books.

The following categories of stitches are included in this volume: Knit & Purl patterns; Knit & Purl Panels; Rib patterns; Cable patterns; Cable panels; All-over Lace patterns; Lace panels; Patterns for Texture and Colour; and Edging patterns.

Each entry is accompanied by a color photograph and line by line instructions for knitting. In the Texture and Colour section, several stitch patterns are shown in 2 and 3 color variations. ( )

This, the Harmony Guides, is a canonical series of stitches and patterns for knitting. It, like the Barbara Walker Treasury series, are essential to knitters who want to move beyond knitting other people's patterns.

I understand that this version of the series is going out of print, to be replaced by a new series that is organized differently. I'll probably buy it too. ( )

Disambiguation notice
The original Harmony Guides were published in the 1980s and 1990s by at least two companies: Lyric Books and Collins & Brown. The titles and sequence were similar but not identical.

The Harmony Guide to Knitting Stitches, Volume 2 (Lyric) was re-titled as 440 More Knitting Stitches: Volume 3 (Collins & Brown).
