I am so happy to have finally track down a copy of this book. It was published in 2011 and on December 24th, 2021 it will mark the 50th anniversary of the plane crash in which Juliane Koepcke was the sole survivor in the Peruvian rain forest. Tragically, she lost her mother who was also on that flight. She then had to try to find someone to help her as she was all alone in the dense forest with a lot of injuries. She has since over the years championed the work her parents started and gone back many times for her own research and preservation of the research station her parents started. It is a truly remarkable story of a young woman, this catastrophic event, and how much good she has done since that fateful day!
So much i did not know about the Peruvian rain forest including all the interesting animals, the people and their ways of life. Remarkable story!! ( )

Ongelofelijk verhaal van een jonge vrouw die als enige een vliegtuigongeluk heeft overleeft en daarna weer haar leven oppakt om een deel van het regenwoud te redden waarin ze is opgegroeid. ( )

The author literally fell from the sky—the only survivor of a plane that crashed over the Peruvian jungle. The book chronicles her survival, her guilt, and her mission to save the chunk of rainforest her parents had first set up as a research station—called Panguana. I learned a great deal about the rainforest, media insensitivity, the longevity of grief and the importance of forward thinking. ( )
