Jill Maughan was born in 1958 in Newcastle. She grew up in Chester-le-Street, and went to school at Polam Hall in Darlington. After working in journalism and social work, she took a degree in Communication Studies at Sunderland Polytechnic, and then worked as publicity officer for Castle Chare Community Arts in Durham City. She lives in Plawsworth, Co. Durham, and was joint winner of the first Evening Chronicle Poetry Competition in 1984. Ghosts at four o'clock is her first collection of poems, published both in this pamphlet form and as one of four collections included in Bloodaxe Fourpack #1.… (more)
