4 Solid Stars

Much better written than book #1 [b:Fated|8686057|Fated (Dark Protectors, #1)|Rebecca Zanetti|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1280537841s/8686057.jpg|13558352].
I didn't find any editing problems in this one which made it a smoother read.

Dage and Emma are great characters. Both have very strong personalities and both are intelligent.

The pace of the story did slow down a couple of times and that is the reason I am giving it 4 stars.

For the most part it was a very, very good read.

The suspense was compelling and thought provoking.
You have numerous things happening.
The Virus Emma is trying to find a cure for.
Who got close enough to infect key characters and how did they get infected? (I try not to give spoilers)
The ongoing problems with the Kurjans and the war with them.
Who are truly their allies? Who is foe?
Who is the mole?!

The erotic scenes between Dage and Emma are fascinating and provocative.
Filled with ADULT sensuality and passion.

I can't wait to read [b:Hunted|12472085|Hunted (Dark Protectors, #3)|Rebecca Zanetti|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1319397291s/12472085.jpg|17456222] book #3! ( )

I liked that this book had an actual plot unlike the last book in the series. Emma Paulsen and Cara Kayrs were captured by the Kurjans at the end of Fated. Cara is rescued, and then Emma is rescued offscreen. Claimed starts by showing what happened offscreen. Emma has been whisked off in a helicopter on her way to a Kurjan named Franco who wants to force her to be his mate. Dage teleports (because that’s a power that some vampires have in this series apparently) to Emma’s location and kills the Kurjans in the helicopter before teleporting again with Emma to an area not far from the helicopter crash site. From there, Emma is reunited with her sister and introduced to her new in-laws.

Dage is a vampire and the King of the Realm and he's been dreaming about his mate for centuries. When he finds her he's never letting her go, but he's willing to give her time.

Emma is a geneticist, who has prophetic dreams and has known about Dage for years. The catch is she's also seen her death and she won't mate Dage unless she can figure out how to fix it.

While Dage works to convince Emma to mate with him, they are also being attacked internally, with someone is slipping their mates a bio-weapon that reverts mates back to being human and converts shifters into werewolves. They have to find the traitor and protect their mates.

I liked this book more than Fated, Dage loved Emma for who she was and treated her more as a partner. He really seemed to be trying not to be a caveman, until he can't. These two were feisty and playful, in and out of bed. We also continue to see more of Janie and Zane's story and given more details on the war, future couples and other paranormals I expect to see in future books.

What I didn't like was Emma protested too much and too long and made some really bad choices. I know why she did what she did, I just felt it went on too long and became annoying. The other frustrator was how little protections were implemented once they knew they had a traitor. It just didn't match their nature. I also wanted to know why Miora didn't come to help them solve their magical problem but stayed across the ocean, it made no sense.

Honestly the snippets about Janie and Zane stole the limelight and I'm left thinking more about their story and than Dage and Emma's.

While I loved the first in the series, this one really just seemed to repeat a ton of stuff. I get that Emma and Cara are sisters and are bound to have similar personalities. But with them both being so headstrong and against the mating in the beginning it just seemed repetitious to me.
This book in the series revolves around Emma and Dage. Emma is a scientist and Cara's older sister, while Dage is the King of the Realm and Talen's brother. Of course, Emma has visions, and while she has been seeing Dage's past for 15 years, she never had visions of them together, except in the last few years when she saw what she believed was her death. So while she is falling for him, she is determined not to get attached and that she will leave once she figures out a way to save Cara from the virus that is turning her back into a human.
We meet the elusive brother Kane, who is also a scientist and learn more about the virus that the Kurjans, the bad guys, have developed to steal mates. Cara, Katie, and the Prophet Lily have all been infected with the virus while at the Realm symposium. Most of the book is based around finding a cure for the virus and saving everyone, including Cara's unborn child. There are a few fight scenes, and even more sex scenes than the first book. The ending was a little rushed for my liking, but I loved that Conn got to have a little chat with his mate, and really can't wait to read more about all the other brothers! ( )

I'm kind of hooked wanting to know what happens to everyone. I really like all of the characters so I'm invested in the series, I just didn't like some of the things that Dage did to Emma. Pretty sure if my mate locked me in a room it would take more than a day and super hot nookie to get over it! He is so Alpha that it's almost too much for me. That said, I did enjoy this one and will read the next :) ( )

Epigraph
Dedication
To my mom, Gail Cornell English, who has always been the

go-to mom for us all—from being room mom, to coaching

softball to helping us sew pillows for Home Ec. when we

didn't have a clue. She also managed to raise three girls

without going stark raving mad when we were all teenagers

at the same time. Though as her grandchildren approach

their teenager years, she has a funny smile on her face . . .

To my father, Jim English, who taught me three basic things.

First, a sense of humor will get you through anything in life,

while making it all the more enjoyable. Second, it is a

colossal mistake to take golf lessons from your own father.

And third, Dads are there for you no matter what.

I love you both.

And as always to big Toné—I love you.
