Fun, but uneven. The descriptions of the heroine made it seem like she was stuck in the 1980s, even though the book's from 2003. Ironed designer jeans with stiletto heels? Maybe this is cutting edge fashion, and maybe most 30-somethings dress like this & do big hair & makeup to hang out around the house. Anyway, that, and the errors in the book really kept me from enjoying it as much as I might have otherwise. Also, it had the hero making a stupid assumption about the heroine & sticking with it despite all evidence to the contrary, which always makes me mad. The story about a fake kidnapping and the revitalization of two of the secondary characters' marriage, and the revenge story were all good. A good editor could make this a 5-star book. ( )

In memory of a rare, special night
when I finally got two of
my very favorite people together,
this is dedicated, with love,
to my cousin Colleen
and my best friend, Mimi.
Here's to
French manicures and ice cream,
plots to convert Christopher into a Babs fan,
and conversations both serious enough
to make us cry and so hysterical
we nearly wet our pants.
I adore you both.

Lily Morrisette wants roots, respect, her own business, and independence. So what is she doing on a road trip with a good-looking marine who's carrying her into the heart of serious peril? It started out as an impulsive lark fueled by her strong chemical reaction to sexy Zach Taylor -- a tough, blustery, yet tender-in-spite-of-himself career military man who's determined to break up his darling "baby sister" Glynnis's wedding engagement. But there's no Glynnis waiting for them at the end of the line -- only a ransom note ... and a death threat. Amid a dangerous nest of family secrets, the heat between Zach and Lily soon becomes unbearable as a kidnapper's dark and twisted scheme pulls them closer than either dreamed possible. And when passion explodes, Lily's reckless act could prove to be either the best risk she's ever taken ... or her last.… (more)
