The ending! Ugh, I NEED to know what happens! I loved learning more about Kenji, Warner, and Adam. It was great to see how their pasts made them who they are, especially Warner. And finally learning his name! And so many plot twists. Soooo many. I highly recommend this trilogy to anyone. I can not wait to read the third book. How can I be so invested and yet not care about the main characters at all? The second I think I’m on common ground with them or applauding the character development, something gets thrown out of wholly left field, and I have to rebuild again…and, oh. This is what living, and moving past trauma feels like. I hate this book for being so annoying and yet gripping all at the same time. I still don’t like how I can get deep, poetic monologues and then a bunch of grammatically nonsensical sentences to make me feel like I’m going insane with the character. It doesn’t need to try that hard. Then, there is the lesson almost every dystopian fantasy story has been screaming for years: Never get involved with brothers. Stronger than the first book, definitely. Still annoyed me frequently, but the characters were both more and less enjoyable at the same time. Juliette has grown a pair, which is the best development so far in terms of my enjoyment, although she still has weak moments. I’m guessing that’ll change by the end? Plot significantly improved from book no.1, which is how I’m justifying the 4 star rating. I was actually interested in what Juliette was doing this time! More of a 3.5 than a 4, but GR doesn’t allow 0.5 star increments so…

I don't like the main character, Juliette. At all. She's so whiny, and the audiobook version doesn't help with that aspect. I've read that it gets better at 50% and I was trying to power through but I think I'll take a break from this for awhile. There needs to be a lot more Kenji and a lot less Juliette!
