Jess Holden is a cowboy who doesn't think he will ever get married because of his horrible childhood. Then he rescues Gabi Newberry from a flash flood near Mule Hollow, Texas. Gabi is a veterinarian's assistant, granddaughter to one of the matchmakers in Mule Hollow, who has "come home" to start a new life for herself as a new believer. She is spunky, full of life, laughter and love and has Jess rethinking the whole love and marriage idea. But when Gabi shares some of her sordid past with him it could end the love relationship that has just begun.

I loved Gabi in this story. She was fresh, honest and full of life. The impact of alcohlism in this story and how many lives it touched in differing ways makes one realize how awful it is for those who have lived or are living through it. But I loved the hope that Gabi showed; that you can be free from the addiction if you place your faith and trust in the Lord . This was a great romantic story, but it had a good message of forgiveness and hope with it. This is book two in the Mule Hollow Homecoming Series. I look forward to reading more in this series! ( )

Debra Clopton does it again with another beautiful story in Mule Hollow. Jess Holden and his two brothers have experienced a life time of pain brought on by their alcoholic father and their mother who abandoned them. While Luke and Colt were able to deal with these issues in their own way, Jess continued to hold on to them over 20 years causing a great amount of discomfort and confusion of how he viewed God.
Gabi returns to where her family lives after narrowly escaping an accident where she almost killed a family while she was drunk. After being confronted by an ER nurse while in the hospital of her actions, Gabi determined to never be in that situation again, giving her life to Christ and moving to where her family lives she is determined to strengthen her new found faith in Christ.
It is here she meets Jess and both are smitten and can't escape what they feel for each other. While both have many issues they must work through, God works within their lives causing them to see that He desires for them to be together and live a life pleasing to Him.
I appreciate Debra's writing and feel you will enjoy this story very much.

Gabi Newberry returns to Mule Hollow to stay with her grandmother (who happens to be a Mule Hollow matchmaker) and recover from a very difficult time in her life. As a new believer she's anxious to leave her past behind and start fresh, working as a veterinarian's assistant. Fate seems to be working against her when she finds herself caught in a flash flood while hauling a couple of calves. That's when she meets Jess Holden. A very handsome cowboy who rescues her and the calves from the rising water. The attraction between them is strong. Gabi has never met anyone quite like Jess (though he is a little high-handed) and, though Jess is a confirmed bachelor, he finds himself drawn to the sweet and spunky Gabi in a way he's never been drawn to a woman. But when Gabi's past collides with Jess' past, will Jess be able to deal with it or will he turn his back on what just might be the best thing that ever happened to him?

I thoroughly enjoyed my trip to Mule Hollow! This is the first book I've read in that series but I'll tell ya, it makes me want to read all the others. I fell in love with the town and it's people and though this is the latest in the series I didn't feel lost at all. This story really felt like the perfect blend of emotion and humor while tackling difficult subjects like alcoholism, abandonment, abuse and anger. I loved how the author effortlessly weaved the message that 'God is bigger than our problems and works out everything for His glory and purpose'. That's a great reminder when you're traveling a difficult road. The characters were very well drawn and the emotions they faced and how they behaved, in my opinion, were very realistic. I loved the all interaction between Gabi and Jess, and between Jess and his brothers. It just made me want to keep turning pages to see what would happen next. And although you can pretty much guess the ending, it was still more than satisfying. For those who have not yet visited Mule Hollow, I highly recommend you pick-up Her Lone Star Cowboy. For those who have been following the Mule Hollow series, I'm sure, will find this to be a wonderful addition. Great Job, Debra! Can't wait for the next installment!

Review Lone Star Cowboy by Debra Clopton
4 STAR
I believe this is my first book of Debra's Mule Hollow series that I have read but doubt it will be the last. I really enjoyed reading it. No sex scenes. Deals with some hard issues of drunk driving from lots of angles. Drunk father and mother who walked out on her kids, choosing to be better or be thankful for the good in your life.
Gabi has moved back to Mule Hollow to be by her Grandma and learn more about how to be a good Christian. Her fiance dumped her a month ago because she was changing and trying to be a women of faith instead of a party girl.
Gabi is the new Vet assistant and gets the truck with trailer and two calves stuck in the mud and decides to go for help but almost gets swept away in flash flood but Jess sees her in time to rescue her. Then rescues the calves.
Gabi had a hard life his father was a drunk and when he was 10 his mother left him and his brothers and took off. He is working a ranch with his brothers. Plus he hauls animals around for ranchers. When something is killing his cattle the first time he finds 4 cows dead.
Gabi is working with the Vet to try and find what is killing the cattle. They belive its one of a hundred different poison weeds. Thier is also a bad drought at same time.
Jess has a lot of issues to work out but so does Gabi. You care about the characters and makes me want to read some more books about Mule Hollow. This is her twentieth book set in Mule Holllow.
I was given this ebook to read in exchange for honest review from Netgalley.
