A fine little short story prequel to the Coldfire trilogy. Doesn't do much. Didn't need to. Just saying hi to a favorite character in a favorite world with a favorite magic system. ( )

Hmmm... Interesting, but I think you need to have read the others to really get what is going on in this story. I really didn't follow it until I went off and read the Wikipedia article about the Coldfire Saga. @Audible: I think you would have hooked me to this series by giving me the first book in the series rather than this one. I know its cheaper for you in to give a novella away instead of a full-sized novel but I wasn't sufficiently interested by this to start this series. ( )

**Spoilers**

No offense to the author, but I need to be honest. I thoroughly enjoyed the Coldfire Trilogy. So much, in fact, that I almost stopped reading it for fear Tarrant would be killed. However, the prequel to the Coldfire Trilogy was "OK". I had actually hoped for better. It has been years since I read the original trilogy with Tarrant and Vryce.

The short story was just that: short. I know, it was meant to be a short story. Still, I would have liked to have read more, provided the plot was interesting enough.

Perhaps I enjoyed the trilogy so much because of the "relationship" between Tarrant and Vryce. I was initially bored with this short story. Once Tarrant reached the forest, my interest increased only to have the story end. I suppose there wasn't much more to write during the years before the first meeting with Vryce.

If you are a Tarrant fan, curiosity will win out and you will purchase this read. It isn't terrible. Just do not have high hopes either. ( )

Warning! Vampires within.
I'd not heard of the author or her series, and the blurb suggested nothing about vampires, so I thought this would be a good way to see if I might want to read a story the 'fae' (a gaelic mythological world) Unfortunately I got a story about vampires and their universe simply tweaked a touch (though not enough to be unique in anyway) and titled 'fae'.
I did enjoy the narrator's timbre and performance - this particular piece was lacking in dialogue or audio variety and so might be soporific to some, but I don't think it was the fault of the narrator. The little opportunity the narrator had to "show his stuff" made me want to look for more books narrated by him - I hope he doesn't only do vampires! ( )

This is a prequel to the Coldfire trilogy. I got this as a free download from Audible.com. I read the Coldfire trilogy some 20 years ago back when I was in highschool, so I honestly don’t remember it all that well. In fact I didn’t remember any of the characters that were in this prequel. I do keep meaning to go back and reread the Coldfire series (I don’t think I actually ever finished the third book) and maybe this will spur me on to do so.

The quality of the audiobook was fine. The narrator wasn’t outstanding but wasn’t bad either.

This is a very short story about Gerald Terrant as he journeys into a dangerous Fey forest to test his might against the powers there. There is also a Church woman fighter named Faith who takes on a White Wolf. Later Gerald has some involvement with the White Wolf.

The story was okay but pretty brief. I think it you are a huge fan of the Coldfire trilogy you will probably enjoy this prequel to the series. It adds a little more background on the character of Gerald Terrant.

I honestly don’t have a ton to say about this novella. It was decently written, but not very engaging. I think it may had been of more interest to me if I had just finished the Coldfire trilogy. Friedman obviously assumes you know all about Gerald Terrant and doesn’t really make an effort to introduce him or make him an engaging character for readers. The White Wolf is a much more intriguing character in this story.

Overall an okay dark fantasy novella, that will probably be a decent read if you have read the Coldfire trilogy. I personally would skip this if you haven’t read the Coldfire trilogy yet. ( )
