En el año 66 d. C., en tiempos de Nerón, una expedición se dispone a seguir el curso del Nilo con el propósito de conquistar nuevas tierras aún por descubrir y, al mismo tiempo, abrir un nuevo mercado con el que comerciar. Los riesgos son evidentes, pero más inesperado es que quienes debían actuar de guías se conviertan en enemigos y que las luchas internas entre los componentes de la expedición acaben de un modo sangriento. A partir de un detallado conocimiento de los espacios y la época, León Arsenal reconstruye una aventura en la que vemos al hombre luchando contra los elementos, y al mismo tiempo contra sí mismo.
