A woman and mother, Jenny Dobbins is murdered at a locals park in Hawaii. Her best friend, Bess Blinke, was with her though busy playing with Jenny’s children, she didn’t witness the actual murder. Bess is devastated by the loss of her friend and now she is being stalked and doesn’t know why.

This author provides a look at Island life away from the tourist centers and adds an additional twist to the mystery. An enjoyable read.

I would have given it 4 stars if the author had provided a dictionary of pidgeon-English words. Trying to guess the meaning of the words in a sentence at times blocked the flow. ( )

Bess Blinke witnesses her best friend Jenny being murdered on the playground where her children are laughing and innocently happy. Dismayed when James, the husband, seems to care more for his own selfish needs than his kids, she offers to help care for them. Family secrets start to unravel as she learns more about Jenny’s life. The path takes Bess down a road she wouldn’t have imagined. Lies, deception, and danger follow her as she attempts to discover who killed Jenny. When another person she trusted dies, she’s afraid the tentacles reach far further than she’d known. On the run, she has to expose the killer before his henchmen find her. Detailed descriptions of Hawaiian scenery, politics, and lifestyles enhance this gripping story. ( )
