The story goes in many different directions, politics, mining, mob, charismatic leaders, divorce. and in the end everything comes together and the good guy gets the girl. Somewhat simplistic and often chaotic a readable thriller. ( )

I received this book as part of the LibraryThing Early Reviewers, and found it to be a relatively quick read. The books is set on Vancouver Isalnd against the backdrop of the political scene in British Columbia from at least 20 years ago (as it mentions many key figures from the late 1980s to early 1990s). It just so happens that I have spent a great deal of time in the Comox Valley and am quite aquatinted with the BC political scene, so I found that to be a bit distracting from the drive of this story. However, that is just a sad coincidence of my personal experience and overall I think that this book was a good mystery. ( )

I got this book as part of LTER. It follows the story of Sid, a writer who is down on his luck. In order to get some money he takes a some jobs that he normally pass by and gets involved with shady characters. This story is full of action and rarely slows down.
The book is well written and the characters are believable and interesting with plenty of action and suspense and even a little romance. ( )

Sid Rafferty is a writer. He's got into writing for movies, and got his fingers burned. Now he needs to write anything to keep his bank manager happy! In his quest to make some money, he ends up involved in some dealings with some dodgy people. This is the story of a web of intrigue.
Who is following him? Who's arranged for his house to be turned over? A bent policeman? A criminal mastermind? All seem interested in his dealings with Griesel.
This is a good story with plenty of twists, turns and intrigue. It's impossible to work out who is involved in what until the very last page. ( )
