A nice encyclopedia-format reference of the last 100 years in American newspaper comics by an authority in the field. Similar to his World Encyclopedia of the Comics, but more recent and not quite as expansive. Good black-and-white illustrations, but the small number of color Sunday page reproductions are sometimes lacking in quality. A good reference. ( )
