Although only the second in Valerie Thomas and Korky Pauk's picture-book series devoted to the humorous adventures of Winnie the Witch - Winnie the Witch, first published in 1987, was the first, and close to ten years would elapse before the author/illustrator team revisited the character - Winnie in Winter is the fourth Winnie title I have read, following upon the initial book, as well as Winnie Flies Again, and Winnie's Midnight Dragon. This is owing largely to the fact that these three books are the only ones in the series, currently comprising eleven titles (not including the related chapter-books, authored by someone else), to be published here in the states, something I find very frustrating, as these are wonderfully witchy stories. I ordered my copy of this one from the UK, and am not sorry I did! The story is engaging, full of both witchy and seasonal appeal (who hasn't wished that winter would end?), and the artwork gorgeously detailed, full of those humorous flourishes I have come to expect from Pauls work. All in all, Winnie in Winter is one that witchy book-lovers will not want to miss! ( )
