This book would probably have felt more thought-provoking and powerful if the character of Lucas didn't seem quite so hopelessly flat. ( )

Book description
Haiku summary

No descriptions found.

"Through the long, oppressive summer after his grandfather's death, Lucas becomes aware of dark secrets surrounding the old man's activities during the war. People talk obliquely about the fate of local Jewish children; Lucas feels implicated and bewildered. Meanwhile, racial tension is growing in the neighborhood. Lucas falls under the spell of Benoit, a smooth-talking extremist who draws him into violent action against migrant workers. And the there's Caitlin - enigmatic Caitlin - with her beautiful, sad dancing and her strong opinions. Lucas is captivated by her, though she challenges his views and his very sense of himself. When tragedy strikes, Lucas must face a terrible choice." -- Back cover.… (more)
