John Ortberg is one of my favorite authors. He always challenges me to go deeper in my relationship with God and others. I enjoy the humor that often makes me laugh out loud and his stories and insights always touch my heart. ( )

A very encouraging, inspiring and also practical book for anyone wanting to know more of God's presence day by day. John Ortberg writes in his usual friendly style, with amusing throwaway lines and family anecdotes here and there. He also covers a lot of very important issues, and debunks certain viewpoints (such as the idea that God is only interested in people doing 'spiritual' activities).

There's a useful chapter about different pathways to finding God: this was very reassuring to one who sometimes finds church services rather dull. There's also a chapter about why God sometimes seems far away. And much more.

I'd recommend this very highly to anyone even remotely interested in Christian spirituality. A book I am sure I'll return to.

"This can be the greatest moment of your life because this moment is the place where you can meet God." This is the underlying theme of this book. Using scripture, the arts and personal anecdotes, Ortberg presents the how's and why's of living daily with God. He acknowledges each person's uniqueness and presents intimacy with God as available to each person in a way that suits their unique needs and desires.

This is one of the best books I've read on the subject because Ortberg does not just write that we should have an intimate relationship with God, but describes how to get it in a very real, easy way. Highly recommended for any Christian wanting to get closer to the King. ( )
