I like the characters. Though the main character is just finishing grade 8, the story never feels "young". The story itself is fantastic and I've read it multiple times over the years. ( )

What part did you consider the most suspenseful?
The part where I found the most suspenseful was when suddenly Karen woke up and hear footsteps coming towards her door "Thud Thud Thud", it can't be her brother, he was already sleeping, she can even hear him snoring. Can it be her parents? No, they were heavy sleepers, they never wake up in the middle of the night. Then "Bang Bang Bang", her door shook in it's frame. Then Bang Bang Bang again, louder this time. Someone was real mad with her; then suddenly, the room came cold....FREEZING COLD! How can it be this cold?!? It's the middle of summer! 25 degrees, how could it be "freezing"?!?...Could it be...a ghost?? ( )

Amazon.com Product Description (ISBN 0773673687, Mass Market Paperback)

Poking around a sacred Indian burial ground in the middle of the night with her brother, John, isn't Karen Stone's idea of a great way to start off the summer. But she lets John talk her into it, and the two are plunged into a world they never imagined existed - a world where past and present blend, where the spirits of the dead communicate with the living. With the help of John's classmate, Weird Noah Webster, an expert on all things supernatural, Karen and John try to unravel the mystery that surrounds them. At times amused and fascinated, at times terrified, Karen is forced to confront something she has been running from for far too long.
