Three stars for the artwork. This book absolutely terrified me as a kid. Decades later, it's incredibly unsettling for reasons I can't articulate. I genuinely congratulate Sendak on his success, though, and I'm so glad this is beloved for so long/ ( )

I am reading through a list of banned books and this one was on it. I can't find any reason to ban it. It's a children's book, and it doesn't have anything inherently bad in it. It might be a little scary, but it's just a book. ( )

Summary: Mickey goes on a dream adventure through the strange and sometimes nonsensical "night kitchen."

Personal impressions: Superb and evocative art. Deeply original poetical storytelling. A narrative that both makes sense, and lacks sense in the manner of a dream. Impressionistic genius. ( )
