I'm guessing based on the recipes, the handwriting inside, and the condition of the pages, that it was published sometime around 1920. Each recipe ends with the name of the woman who submitted it; my edition has several newspaper cutouts inside (attached with straight pins no less), along with whole handwritten recipes and notations. The dedication page is especially nice, as below the inscription ("Dedicated to Young Housekeepers as many of the recipes have been given especially for them") the owner wrote in "Many of our worst troubles are those which we expect, but which never happen." Interesting insight. The recipes are rather conventional, but the book is a lovely example of both local trends and an individual's relationship to a cook book. no reviews | add a review
