Spot of Gold No Longer Glimmers

Spot of Gold by Celia Kyle is an Erotic Romance short story that delves into a chance meeting between a human and a Leprechaun. Speculation of such a plot could be engrossing for some readers, as the premise leaves a wide territory for imagination to roam. However, while the main character, Cassie Manousakis, a work-weary young woman, is well enough written, she and her counterpart character seem to lack the infusion of life force that such interaction requires.

The plot is reminiscent of the old film, Groundhog Day, in that the happenings are spoken as repetitive actions, which is an unfortunate misstep. What could be written as a charming and enthralling portrayal of a reoccurring gesture of caring and devotion reads as more of a sub-mention to fill space. If one wishes to pick up a short tale with plenty of erotic folderol, a little romance, and more of a telling of a story than a connective tale that develops images within the reader’s mind, then this one is for you. However, if a person requires a detailed and strong connection between the characters as well as between story and reader, than I am sorry to say that this novel will do little to fill a reader’s ravenous appetite for experiencing the happenings with a tale.

I would like to see the tale pulled and revamped. As I stated at the beginning, it is an interesting premise, and the bare bones of the piece were not bad. The tale needs a spark of life that a more developed, and larger, dose of content would go a long way in creating. ( )
