The German-born Venezuelan artist known as Gego (1912-1994) created spare and unequivocally abstract drawings, prints, three-dimensional works, hanging net pieces, and wire constructions of extraordinary quality. Although championed early in her career by Alfred Barr, founder of MoMA, Gego has remained little known outside of Latin America. This exquisitely designed and produced book - presented in both Spanish and English - features Gego's complete oeuvre, which includes over four hundred prints and drawings as well as three-dimensional works. Born Gertrud Goldschmidt in Hamburg, Germany, Gego studied architecture and engineering before emigrating to Venezuela in 1939 to escape the rise of Nazism. With firm grounding in the universal laws and language of physics, she devoted her artistic career to exploring the line.
