On Christmas Eve, the Bear family goes to Grizzly Gran and Gramp’s house for an old-fashioned Christmas. The decorations are handmade out of things from nature, they sing Christmas carols at the piano, cut down their own Christmas tree, and decorate the tree with lights and ornaments. They even make all of the things they need for Christmas dinner, listen to Christmas carolers, and put out treats for their animal friends. Finally they get to open their Christmas presents the next morning and it is just like Christmas as it is supposed to be.
The book contains lyrics to the “Twelve Days of Christmas” and “Jingle Bells”, instructions for making your own Christmas ornaments, and ideas for Christmas treats for wild animals so that readers can have old-fashioned Christmas traditions of their own. The book can show families that Christmas can be celebrated without TV and other technology, but with family activities and traditions instead. ( )
