I loved it that Dirk, Sandecker and Hiram were also included in this Austin//Zavala saga. Austin and his crew's mission is to stop a mad scientist from blowing up part of the earth using zero-point energy. Some Russians end up being so-called allies in the search for the mad man. This plot is well developed and is an enjoyable fast read ( )

The background of this story begins with Nikolai Tesla and a theory regarding "Zero Point Energy." An extremely powerful energy source, it is considered uncontrollable and experiments have proven disastrous. Kurt and Joe and the rest of the NUMA crew are on a race against time when a super villain threatens to use this to cleave Australia in two. To show he's not joking, he is able to create an earthquake at the time and place of his choosing. But did I mention this is not a stable energy source? Our heroes need to contend with more than simply stopping the UBG's nefarious plot. ( )

It is called Zero-point energy. It was intended to be a source of unexahustable energy for the entire world but in the hands of the "mad scientist", Maximillian Thero. it could very well become the end of the world as we know it. NUMA's Kurt Austin found himself in the middle of the diobolical mess quite by accident. Now he, with the aid of his NUMA comrads. must find Thero and stop his plans from taking place. The simple truth is that once Zero-Point energy is release it can not be controlled.

I've read all of Clive Cusslers books and this is one of the best I have read in several years. From page one it grabs you and holds on. So...before you start reading it, cut your grass, wash your car, walk the dog because you won't be able to put it down. ( )

I'm never disappointed by a Cussler book. Always an entertaining and far-fetched bit of fun. I still don't care for Kurt/Joe as they really just feel like Dirk/Al lite, but if you are just looking for a fast, fun read without a lot of character development, this is perfect. ( )

Amazon.com Product Description (ISBN 039916250X, Hardcover)

The dazzling new novel in the #1 New York Times–bestselling series from the grand master of adventure.

It is called zero point energy, and it really exists—a state of energy contained in all matter everywhere, and thus all but unlimited. Nobody has ever found a way to tap into it, however—until one scientist discovers a way.

Or at least he thinks he has. The problem is, his machines also cause great earthquakes, even fissures in tectonic plates. One machine is buried deep underground; the other is submerged in a vast ocean trench. If Kurt Austin and Joe Zavala and the rest of the NUMA team aren’t able to find and destroy them, and soon, the world will be on the threshold of a new era of earth tremors and unchecked volcanism.

Now, that can’t be good.
