It's the summer of 1974 and 21-year old Dawn Emerson has only three things she wants to do: compete one last time in the Ellensburg Rodeo, win back her ex-boyfriend Ryan, and become the best damn music journalist at Central Washington State College. But all her plans are left in the dust when she's contacted by CREEM MAGAZINE to go on the road with one of her favorite groups, the up-and-coming metal band, Hybrid. At first the assignment reads like a dream come true. Not only will Dawn land some much-needed credibility as a female music journalist, but she'll finally get to experience life from the other side of the stage, and maybe crack the drunken, enigmatic code that is guitarist Sage Knightly. Instead, Dawn finds herself on an aging tour bus filled with ego-maniacs, band politics and a whole lot of sex, drugs and rock n' roll. When monsters start showing up in dressing rooms and some of Sage's groupies become increasingly strange and dangerous, Dawn discovers the band is not only going places--they're going straight to Hell. And Dawn has a backstage pass.… (more)

Rock & Roll and sellin your soul. Make that deal and whatcha going to do when they come for you.

The Devil's Metal is part 1 of a two part story. Set in 1974 and follows metal band, Hybrid on tour. Even though guitarist Sage Knightly made the deal this book is only told in 21-year old Dawn Emerson voice. Dawn is an aspiring music journalist who is asked to tour with the band to write an epic piece about them. She has no idea what she got herself into not only with the bickering, drugs and crazy fans but also with demons who have come for their pound of flesh.

Sage's deal with the devil is wrapped up at the end of this book but seems Emerson made a mistake and made one two and her story is next in The Devil's Reprise. Running to read now..

ps: I LOVED all the 70's references. The author took some liberties of course with mixing in some real life things that happened in the 70's but it made for some interesting reading and of course some flashbacks to some great bands and songs from that era. ( )

Meh. The story and plot were confusing, and I never really connected with "Rusty". The ending also didn't make much sense to me since I don't remember her ever entering into a "deal", but it doesn't really matter since I won't be reading the next book. Love EiT, but this book just fell flat for me. ( )

This story was crazy! I loved Sins and Needles (except the effin' ending!) and this was great too. Now I'm ready to devour the EIT series. Karina is definitely growing on me!

Warning: this book is kind of slow in the beginning... not in a bad way, but things develop at a crawl until she's on the road and the creepy shit starts happening. And I was seriously creeped out several times in this story. The squishy, licking sounds in the dark on the bus? EWWW!

Read it! ( )
