Something felt a little off about this one, maybe it was just my mood, I didn't care about the characters as much as in the previous books in the serious. Still read it in two days, though (although most of it was on a plane). ( )

Really 2.5 stars, maybe 2.75. Everybody's is seeking the Qomrama Om Ya, the ultimate weapon, which was last seem in Aelita's possession. James Stark (Sandman Slim) lets everyone know he is looking for it, and then has to find someone in Kill City (a collapsed mall in Santa Monica, mostly inhabited by ghosts), who supposedly knows where it is. Definitely the weakest full length novel in the series. ( )

Pretty funny book set in a very messed up Los Angeles where devils, angels and God uneasily coexist with a nonhuman who calls himself Sandman Slim. Urban fantasy meets Mike Hammer and Philip Marlowe. ( )

Everybody's looking for the Qomrama Om Ya, the ultimate weapon. Some of them think James Stark has it. He doesn't, but he doesn't want anyone else to get it so he's searching for it. Typical of James, he's searching in all the most dirty, foul, dangerous, terrifying places. But what do you expect from Sandman Slim, killer of monsters, and former Lucifer?

In this book, more than ever before, James isn't alone. He's been evolving since the first book in this series, transitioning from the Sandman Slim who escaped Hell into James, with friends and family. He isn't used to it, but he's starting to like it.

This series is very obviously rushing toward a confrontation with the old gods. They've been leaking through into our universe, bit by tiny bit, and it seems that now much more than a bit may have arrived. I can't wait to see what's next. ( )

Sandman Slim journeys through the Underworld to find the Magic 8-Ball, a weapon that can destroy the Old Gods currently threatening to return and crush Heaven, Hell, and Earth alike. This is a quest narrative, and so the picaresque descriptions didn’t make me sigh with impatience as they did a couple of other times in the series—the journey is the point. Also killing things and stomping people. ( )

Book description
Another day, another apocalypse

James Stark, aka Sandman Slim, has managed to get out of Hell, renounce his title as the new Lucifer, and settle back into life in L.A. But he also lost the Qomrama Om Ya, an all-powerful weapon from the banished older gods. Older gods who are returning and searching for their lost power.

The hunt leads Stark to an abandoned shopping mall—a global shopping paradise infested with Lurkers and wretched bottom-feeding Sub Rosa families, squatters who have formed tight tribes to guard their tiny patches of retail wasteland. Somewhere in this kill zone is a dead man with the answers Stark needs. All Stark has to do is find the dead man, recover the artifact, and outwit and outrun the angry old gods—and natural-born killers—on his tail.

But not even Sandman Slim is infallible, and any mistakes will cost him dearly.
