This was a lovely short read. Maude is in a bad situation--engaged to a man without her own consent! Her parents are determined that she will marry him---after all "he's a wonderful provider" and she "will have everything." She has to get out and get out FAST. She meets a sweet woman who runs a business sending mail order brides out west. From the limited selection, Maude selects a farmer named John and marries him.

Maude trades in that Eastern "almost-well-to-do" lifestyle for a hard life on the farm. But she enjoys her new life, her new family, and her adoring husband. I think I envy this fictional woman! ( )

I love mail order bride stories and this one held my interest. Conflict, characters and plot were all well done.

I thought some of the words used were too modern for the time period, but it won't deter me from reading more from this author. I've already started book 2 in the series. ( )
