The story begins aboard the spaceship Icarus which is suddenly and catastrophically yanked out of hyperspace. Spoilt rich girl Lilac LaRoux and war hero Tarver Merendsen find themselves as survivors on a strange new planet. The setting seems to be predominantly the backdrop for a fairly stereotypical enemies-to-lovers romance. Lilac is the annoying pampered princess with high-heels, an evening gown and an I’m-better-than-you attitude, but turns out to be tougher than she looks. Tarver felt like a cardboard cutout American military hero full of toughs and machoism. I really didn’t like either of them and didn’t really care that she was cold and needed him to lend her his jacket and put his arm around her. Maybe it will improve in the next book and they might even explain the premise or story behind the world they are in. 2 stars for me, sorry, just not my jam. ( )
