Two romances in one, it threw me at first but once I got the rythym of the story it got more comfortablle. It was nice seeing Micah and Maggie again. Not the typical romance story.

In the sixth book of her Bounty Hunter series, Lorie O’Clare does not disappoint. In fact, she excels! The Mulligan Stew assassin is still on the loose. Oh, people know who he is but they don’t know where and that’s all to the good. Ben Mercy, Bounty Hunter trainee goes out to his bike one morning and find a wad of cash with a quick note to use it to get his license and clear his own name. He knows who sent the cash – Micah Mulligan. Yep, that guy!
Ben decides to try to find Micah and Maggie in northern California and decides to begin with the last blank postcard he received – a little town called Zounds. Pretty place – at least on the outside. Inside it is ruled by Emilio Cortez who owns the town, lock stock and property deeds. Cortez is a total mafia lord but his daughter, Zoey, is not. She’s the first person Ben meets in town and gives him a quick tour.
Sparks fly but Zoey is engaged to someone her father picked out and doesn’t know how to get away. She spends time with friends in the local bookstore run by Angelina Matisse a strong woman who knows she’d best pay her monthly “dues” or risk losing all she has worked for. Angel would do anything for Zoey.
Ben learns things in Zounds are far from beautiful; Zoey’s dad wants him dead and has men who can see to it. Angel worries about losing her store and home and, to top it all off another Bounty Hunter shows up named Wolf Marley who is determined to bring in the Mulligan Stew assassin and claim the one million dollar bounty. Then, Maggie drives by in a beat-up VW. What else can possibly go wrong?
