I received this book in a goodreads giveaway. What a fun read! Pilgrim is sort of a mix of Philip Marlowe, Mike Hammer and Rambo. A terrific character, all ultra patriot and sensitive self questioning. Nothing too deep here, in fact the best way to enjoy it is to suspend belief on the plot twists and action scenes--it's just an exciting ride. I'm really looking forward to the next book. I wanted to read this book for a while, and finally did it! This is a spy thriller and a terrifying story. It begins when a woman is found dead in a hotel room. "Pilgrim" is called to help investigate, and he reluctantly agrees. The scene and its clues point to Turkey, and Pilgrim dreads what that means. In Saudi Arabia, a dad is beheaded, and his son takes his place as the patriarch of the family, who is staunchly religious. When he witnesses his mother without her veil, he is furious, and leaves to join a religious crusade against the west. He develops a deadly virus to wipe out humanity, esp. in the US. This complex tale is full of intrigue, secrets, and deadly violence. It is a fast-paced thriller, although it is a long novel. Buckle in for the ride - will Pilgrim be able to save the human race?
“I Am Pilgrim” is not a film treatment bloated into book form. It’s a big, breathless tale of nonstop suspense, and it has something rarely found in big-budget movies of the same genre: the voice of a single writer instead of the patchwork nonsense created by endless collaborators and fixers. Simply unputdownable." --Booklist A breakneck race against time...and an implacable enemy. An anonymous young woman murdered in a run-down hotel, all identifying characteristics dissolved by acid. A father publicly beheaded in the blistering heat of a Saudi Arabian public square. A notorious Syrian biotech expert found eyeless in a Damascus junkyard. Smoldering human remains on a remote mountainside in Afghanistan. A flawless plot to commit an appalling crime against humanity. One path links them all, and only one man can make the journey.
