This is the second book in the free online series Falls Chance Ranch by Rolf and Ranger. Like the first book, this one took a little bit of patience, as the writing is really slowly paced. This is definitely not the fast food of books, not the junk food either. Not only the five main characters, but also a lot of side characters, become close to the reader as they are developed during hundreds and hundreds of pages. I feel the pace of the storytelling got faster during the last chapters, and I enjoyed those chapters most. During the last few chapters all the developments in the book also reached their conclusion, and for me the final chapters were rewarding. I did question a thing or two in the book, in one case because I can't share the belief in mystical powers that especially one character in the book represents. I can only say I would not have paddled, because from my point of view disobedience was what saved Dale and Riley's lives later on in the mine. But I can see Jas's point of view is different. What I most love in the Falls Chance Ranch books is the feel of domesticity and love. And Paul, being the most domestic person, has quietly stolen my heart. ( )
