Epigraph
Dedication
Although Charles Burton Irwin, his family, and many friends actually lived, this novel about him necessitated a few additional fictitious charac ters to fill in blanks where people probably existed, but have been forgotten.  Most of the conversation is made up; most of the stories took place.  This work is dedicated to the real people, relatives, and friends of C. B. Irwin, because they left a precious legacy toward the growth of the American West, and should be remembered.
