If you've read and loved this author's prior works with sizzling sex, heroines who are in danger and could use a little support and strong heroes at their side every step of the way, then Someone to Watch Over Me is a super condensed version of her usual suspense novels but no less exciting. Stacey may have been scared and in trouble, but I admired her courage for trying to retain her independence. Cash may have broken her heart once upon a time, but she didn't try to avoid him at every turn or show animosity towards him. Cash wasn't shy about showing how much she still affected him. He was sweet, a bit more reserved than the man she used to know. There are hints that something happened to drive them apart, and they're both operating under false assumptions. Their chemistry was palpable from the moment they were reunited. It wasn't a scorching heat but a nice slow burn born out of both hesitancy, history and lust. For a novella, I thought the characters were well developed. I didn't have a problem understanding who they were in the past and what molded them into the people they were in the present. The plot was good with the usual high levels of passion, suspense and danger. The story kept up a good pace from beginning to end, and in typical Jerrie Alexander fashion, there was a plot twist that I never saw coming. Very well told suspense and the romance is spun in just right. I have read Alexander's other work, including The Green Eyed Doll, The Last Execution, Hell or High Water and Cold Day in Hell and I can say that this is another hit. Quick read and an enjoyable book. no reviews | add a review
