This is not necessary, but provides a little information on the factions and some characters. ( )

A fun tiny romp through what divided the factions at the beginning, how they saw evil breaking down the world. The contracts between them. The rules they each gave themselves. There isn't story in here, but it was a fun little thing to scroll through the morning I found it had been released. ( )

Cute addition to the series. I really liked reading the faction's manifestos. ( )

This book makes a great supplemental read to the Divergent series if you're a super duper fan and maybe if you haven't gotten to Allegiant yet. But otherwise, skip it.

It features a small Q&A from Veronica Roth, a blip of a quiz to figure out which faction you belong to (the results of which still makes me question the foundation of these factions, unless, *gasp!*, am I Divergent too?), each faction's manual (this is cool because they aren't featured in whole except when referenced in the story, but doesn't redeem this rather short supplemental guide), and sneak preview passages of Allegiant.

I mean, I get that I also read this long after the series came out but I was hoping for more of a background into the story, maybe a look into other minor characters, a map of the city, details that won't give away too much of the next book's plot, etc. And the only reason this took me two days to read was because I literally fell asleep trying to figure out why I spent any time on this. Well, onto Allegiant now. ( )
