This is a companion app for an exhibit entitled Creatures of Light: Nature’s Bioluminescence (created by the American Museum of Natural History) that explores the organisms that produce light (i.e. fireflies, glowworms), how they do so, and how scientists study this phenomenon. Interactive animations, photo galleries, informative text, and videos included throughout the app provide extensive coverage of each topic covered by the app. The app also has a section providing background on what is in the exhibit and how the exhibit was created. Each chapter of the app is set to a different soundtrack. This app is recommended for users ages four and up. The app is simple to navigate and use, with lit-up arrows showing users the appropriate directions to slide the screens. In addition to the app, there is also a web component to the exhibit. Although some of the same information is covered on the website as in the app, the website is more text-heavy and less interactive. There is no advertising on this app. It is compatible only with iPads. It is recommended to be used to teach young children about the topic of bioluminescence, regardless of whether or not they have seen the exhibit. ( )
