My favorite parts were chapter 6: "Becoming Perfect before the Lord: 'A Little Better Day by Day' ", and chapter 5: "The Grand Destiny of the Faithful." It's not an easy path, but faithful or not, life has hard spots. The difference is between joy and regret. So, I study the teachings of the prophets so that I will be better at doing what they say.

I was impressed that the unnamed editors were able to find so many teachings of Lorenzo Snow that were so relevant to modern times. He also had an eloquence that must have been uncommon on the western frontier.

I would have enjoyed the manual more if there had been more historical context explained for the major issues he was surely referring to at the time: namely the United Order and government anti-polygamy campaigns. Instead the book presented his teachings only as they related to modern LDS issues and teachings, which is still useful and interesting. ( )
