I liked the lively writing of this one, and the way it celebrated everything Jefferson contributed while still holding him accountable.

This picture book is a biography of the historical figure Thomas Jefferson. From loving his garden to naming his home "Monticello," to writing the Declaration of Independence, to having children, to being president; this book also included more historical figures such as John Adams and George Washington. This book would be a great resource for a history class about the presidents and the writing of the Declaration of Independence. ( )

This biography is about Thomas Jefferson. The reader can see how Mr. Jefferson lived while reading this biography book. This is considered a children's informational book about our third president of the United States. . The illustrations were very unique, as they looked more like the illustrator colored them as opposed to real photographs or more biography type pictures. The coloring of the picture in the book are presented to make it more kid friendly and appealing to younger readers. It is an easier book to read and recommended for 3rd through 5th grade elementary level students. ( )

This biography is about Thomas Jefferson. The reader can find just how his life went, along with events from his presidency. This informational book is one that would be good for the students in the middle elementary grades such as first through second grade. This book can introduce many key facts about Thomas Jefferson and his life. An activity that can be completely with this is a project over the life of Thomas Jefferson. ( )

The purpose of this biography of Thomas Jefferson was to inform and entertain young children from grades 1-4. I personally enjoyed reading this book due to the author’s use of writing organization, which created a sense of flow, and displaying accurate facts about Thomas Jefferson in an engaging way by including personal quotes. For example, the author clearly introduced to the reader who Thomas Jefferson was, when he was born, and what he looked like to activate student’s background knowledge. After introducing Thomas Jefferson, the author reveals his interests with compelling and colorful illustrations to engage the reader. Then the author goes in deeper to explore not only his interests but his wife, his role in the American Revolution and the writing of the Declaration of Independence, his role as president, and finally his death. Throughout the book the author also included actual written quotes by Thomas Jefferson, such as “Determine never to be idle. No person will have occasion to complain of the want of time who never loses any,” which gave the book a personal touch as well as a sense of authenticity. The only thing I would change is limiting the use of cursive font in the book which may not be well suited for younger grades (I had a hard time reading it myself at times). ( )
