Timely in that it explores how being different in a society could be dangerous. Will probably try sequel ( ) A teenage girl marries a 40-year old merchant and moves to Amsterdam, where she finds herself alone and friendless and she finds it hard to get her new husband to even look at her, let alone anything else. She has to work out why she is being treated so badly, and what secrets lie behind all the oddness in her new household. This novel seems well researched, but reads like a lighter novel, not a history book, so it ought to have wide appeal. Folks who like the Hangman's Daughter series might especially like this book.
