Há exatos 70 anos antes de existir Eren Yaeger, a cidade de Shingashina, a que existe dentro dos muros da Muralha Maria, enfrentou o horror quando uma viúva de um membro da tropa de exploração, Helena, liderou um grupo em sacrifício a qualquer titã disposto a devorá-la, não se importando mais com a segurança dos inocentes, ali começava o culto aos titãs da muralha. Dois soldados, Karuru e Sorumu tentam evitar uma grande tragédia, mas foi em vão. Um portão foi aberto e um titã atacou ferozmente Helena e seu grupo, causando uma imensa tragédia. Para completar o cenário macabro, o titã vomitou diversas pessoas como se debochasse dos esforços da humanidade em tentar ficar viva nem que seja por um dia. Karuru e Sorumu avaliam os danos e se preparam para os funerais, quando algo dantesco acontece. Helena estava grávida e mesmo sendo vomitada pelo titã, seu bebê estava vivo e teriam que salvá-lo. Esse foi o nascimento de Kuklo, ou o filho de titã, que muitos consideram uma aberração aos olhos dos deuses, que passou a maior parte do seu tempo preso por considerá-lo uma ameaça. Mesmo privado de sua dignidade, ele tem um objetivo, provar que não é monstro, mas uma vítima do destino e graças a um inventor, terá a chance de provar sua coragem quando integrar as tropas de exploração e destruir aqueles que mataram sua mãe e o fizeram nascer entre sangue e destruição.
