Told from point of view of Adelaide and one cannot blame her for her behaviour. It is hard to put one's self in the male position. Frustrating as his behaviour was...at the end I considered that if he fell in love with her at first sight, he might have self protective instincts and her waffling behaviour might have confused him and made him hold back for a better signal. Sister Peters in Amsterdam by Betty Neels; (3 1/2*)

This is a well written bit of women's fiction. Sister Peters, of a London Hospital, travels to Amsterdam on an exchange program and spends a pleasant & rather uneventful year working there. She makes some friends, has a flirtation or two & falls in love with the right guy eventually. I loved the back burner story lines and found those characters interesting for the most part.
Although Neels was definitely a formulaic writer, I am happy to be moving along with her works, which I have had for ages. ( )

Book description
Sister Peters was delighted to be chosen, under the new exchange scheme, as the British representative to work in an Amsterdam hospital. It proved to be an interesting new life in more ways than one, and she found that emotional problems could be just as complicated in Holland as ever they could be at home.
