This is a continued Sadie Hoffmiller adventure/mystery. The story plot steadily moves forward and
thickens. However, the long awaited marriage between Sadie and Pete is on very “shaky ground”.
Perhaps her wedding day will have to be postponed or cancelled after her and Pete experience the
attractions of this historical city.

Sadie dreads opening a mysterious letter which eventually leads her to San Francisco where she
meets a nephew for the first time and becomes involved in a deadly murder investigation. This may be
the deadliest yet! Sadie is once again drawn into a captivating mystery. In this case, it is very difficult to
limit the suspects.

As always, Kilpack developed the characters in a realistic manner and portrayed the background
scenes very well.

This story was entertaining and kept the reader guessing at “Who did it?” yet, was largely similar to her
other sleuthing antics.

The title was perfect and the book cover attractive and eye-catching. The character developments were
done well.

I listened to the book on CDs very well read by Diane Dobczynski.
My review of this book on CD offers Four+ Stars. ( )

I liked this story. It has interesting characters that I care about and like. The mystery was good. I had no clue. The personal lines of the story touched me and made me think.

I really hate the recipe that comes between each chapter and throws me out of the story. It makes it hard to get lost in the story. Plus if you want to find them it makes it hard to search for them. I like them best at the end of a book personally.

This is book 11 of A Culinary Mystery but only the third one I have read. The next book is the last so I need to catch up and read the ones I have missed.

There is only 3 weeks before the wedding now. Sadie gets a letter telling her about the death of her sister and is asked to come help close up her apartment.

Sadie has not seen her sister for 15 years and they are not close at all. Their is a lot of mystery around her death and a fire a month later.

Pete and Sadie decide to go and help figure out what happened to her and meet her nephew. while their Pete and Sadie both end up going with deep emotions at the time. I even wondered if they were ready to get married.

I was given this book to read for purpose of giving a honest review of it. ( )

I enjoyed this book, but the theme is so sad, an estranged daughter, sister, and mental illness. Often unrecognized, but dealing with it day in and day out, so very hard, and this is what happened in Sadie’s family. Her sister Wendy, she did things to her family, that still make me cringe, like putting spiders in her sisters mashed potatoes. UGH!
We never really see Wendy in this story; she is already deceased when we meet her. We learn about the highs and lows of her life, and the evil that seemed to consume her. What was really hard to understand was how she treated her child, but winter months were her worst.
We meet so many characters in this read, like the pink lady, the annoyed tenant, the unlikeable daughter-in-law, the loveable Granddaughter, the X-husband, and so on. Sadie has traveled to San Francisco to help the nephew she has never met with her soon to be husband Pete. Can you imagine meeting a nephew for the first time under such circumstances? They think her sister was dead at least a month, and then set on fire…huh?
Now Sadie again cannot accept that this is a natural death, she again has those detective feelings, and with Pete being a retired Police Detective, this pair have there crime ears on. As we travel the streets of San Francisco, you will get the feeling that you are walking these hills, and eating at China Town, don’t try those ribs!
You will make up your mind several times as to who committed the crime, if there was one. I know I was sure that I knew, but then, nope another. This will keep you on the edge of your seat, and believe me you will be shocked at the end. Come along on another great Sadie adventure, a really great, and mysterious read. I really want more, the author did state at the end that it is really getting harder to come up with scenarios, but I think she did a wonderful job!

I received this book through I Am A Reader, Not A Writer, and was not required to give a positive review. ( )
