(114) Traditional books on media literacy for kids tend to focus on the basics: advertising is meant to persuade you in commercials or print and rarely capture kids' imagination. This book is different: not only does it expand into emerging and digital communications forms, but it is fun to read. A much-needed addition to the media literacy canon! ( )

I thought that this was a smart, well-illustrated, and timely book for kids. It used many relevant examples, side-bars, and stories to illustrate the manipulation that advertisers often employ. It was informative without being preachy or condesending.

Made You Look is Advertising 101 for kids. It draws the reader's attention to this industry that pervades our environment and examines how it attempts to get the dollars out of our collective pocket. Ms. Graydon livens up the study with a sprinkling of anecdotes and amusing illustrations. (Well, actually, Warren Clark did the illustrations.) Readers are also challenged to do their own analysis of the advertising that they see, hear and read every day.
