Zoe Daniel is the ABC's South-East Asia correspondent, based in Bangkok with her husband and young family. She reports on nine countries across Southeast Asia filing copy and stories for TV, radio, online and social media. She was the Africa correspondent from 2005 until 2007 and spent 2009 covering the Khmer Rouge war crimes trials from Phnom Penh in Cambodia. Zoe's frank and brave memoir, Storyteller, deals with the effects of her work (with its stresses and its constant travel) on her marriage, with the physical and psychological effects of a dangerous, confronting job, and the difficulty of slipping back into her 'regular' life after witnessing deeply disturbing events.… (more)

This was an interesting read. Zoe Daniel was ABC's Asian correspondent until just recently She is also married with two young children. This is the story of her time as a foreign correspondent and it gives a good insight into the job and its challenges. How, after a time away from family witnessing events such as the devestation in the Phillipines, do you return and slot into being a wife and other again. How do you deal with the horrendous events you have witnessed, but then on the plus side to interview Aung San Suu Kyi must count as something really special. The book gave an insight too into the problems and the political landscape of countries such as Thailand and Burma. Worth a read. ( )

Book description
Zoe Daniel is the ABC's fifteenth South East Asia Correspondent, and one of only a handful of women to combine one of the most dangerous jobs in the world with one of the most demanding - motherhood. From the political unrest in Bangkok and the bittersweet story of conjoined twins in India, to a tragic plane crash in Laos and the destruction of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines, Storyteller is a frank and brave memoir, as much about the events that capture our attention as it is about a personal story of the universal juggle of work, ambition and family amid the unpredictability of life and the predictability of the 24/7 media cycle. Storyteller is a timely reminder of the bravery and audacity of the men and women who bring us the news - the journalists, the local 'fixers', the cameramen - but above all it is a tribute to ordinary people who find themselves eyewitnesses to the extraordinary.
