Black and white in simple shades of grey. About a child's desire to buy a bicycle and how she collects, saves, earns money for the same.

Very simple and subtle ways in which the illustration evoke the necessary emotion and tell carry the story. While detailed, it is kept to the minimum. Illustrator has fun with other characters of the story, while for the most part living in the head of the girl.

There is also a story about the girl's brother who is inquisitive and always on the look out for things to play with.

The Girl and the Bicycle by Mark Pett is a heartwarming wordless picturebook about a little girl who falls in love with a bright green bike. The girl works in order to make money to buy herself the bike, unfortunately by the time the girl has her money saved up the bike is gone. The girl uses the money to buy her brother a bike and returns home where she finds her green bike, purchased for her by the lady she had been working for. This book is an amazing book to teach students about being selfless and doing things for others. ( )

"The Girl and the Bicycle '' is a wordless picture book that tells the story about a little girl who really wants a bicycle, but does not have the money to get it. The little girl made it her mission to work hard in order to save up and buy the bicycle herself. In this book the little girl displayed multiple characteristics throughout the story such as: determination, hardworking, and dedication. She also had a little help from her little brother which shows with a little bit of teamwork something can get done. The story continues in the season of autumn and the little girl got a perfect idea from watching her little brother play in the leaves. She was going to rake leaves in order to earn money to buy the bicycle. At first, it was not going so well, but she then finally found an elderly lady to help and began doing her job. It didn't stop there. The little girl continued to help the elderly lady with house chores to earn more money. Time went by and the little girl had completed her mission and saved enough money to buy the bicycle. When she got to the store the bicycle was already purchased. The little girl was disappointed that all the hard work was for nothing. She then thought to herself why not use the money she earned and buy her little brother a new bicycle. The little girl is shown an act of kindness and selflessness. For the kind act she has done it paid off in the long because the elderly lady that she worked for bought the bike for her. So now she and her brother both have bicycles and can ride them together. I gave this book a 5 out 5 stars! ( )

This is a wordless picture book that describe a girl who is determined to get herself a bike. Throughout the book she find ways to earn money to get herself a bike. When reading this book to students teachers are able to ask students what's the problem in the story and what is the little girl trying to accomplish. It's a good book to teach readers of the problem. ( )
