The mostly short poems in this slim volume were not too bad. They were mainly inspired by Lovecraftian themes or themes of darkness and hopelessness. There were a couple translated from Baudelaire (?). They did actually have rhyme and meter which seems like a novelty nowadays. There were a few clinkers, but only a handful.

The book was beautifully produced in an edition of 1,000 with a soft cover not usual for Arkham House. There were very good illustrations by Jason Van Hollander and the font was a nice atmospheric one, well suited for the tenor of the poems. ( )
