I'm not quite sure how I feel about this one. I really liked the first book, Midnight Vengeance and I was really looking forward to this one because Felicity sounded like a badass.

She starts out pretty badass. She saves herself with her hacking and quick thinking when she's ambushed at the airport. And she has some pretty awesome hacking moments. Except for the bit at the end? I didn't get what she did - the phone blew up? Why would anyone write that script as a joke? It took two heads off? It just didn't really make sense. If she had of reprogrammed the battery or something to overload I could've gone with that - but an app to blow it up seemed a bit farfetched. But the majority of this book takes place in Metal's bed with her recovering from a knife wound and it didn't land quite as expected. The suspense plot was bland and made very little sense. When asked why the guy knifed her she responds she has no idea? If she has no idea why he's after her - why on earth is she hiding in the shadows - never going out or getting close to anyone? It made sense if she was in WITSEC and was potentially in danger - but she was out of the program and under the impression she had no enemies so why is she living off grid? I didn't get it. , there was little action and a very thin shaving of a plot. Much like the first book, the romance was ridiculously over the top but unlike the first book, I didn't find it as swoonworthy. Maybe because it felt a bit repetitive. Metal waxes poetically about her attributes for pretty much the entire book and I just got bored. And Felicity didn't really get a chance to showcase much of her badass skills so it just wasn't what I was expecting.

And Jacko - I loved Jacko in the first book but man he was an absolute ass in this one and I hated it.

Still I've read worse books. 3 stars.

I really loved this story! I didn't realize it was part of a series, so it can definitely be read as a standalone, but I will be going back and reading the entire series. Can't wait to read about the other characters lives and loves! I received a copy of this book free through NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion. ( )

Contemporary Romance

Portland, Oregon

Sean “Metal” O’Brien is a former Navy SEAL medic that knows exactly what to do with a gorgeous, bleeding woman that is on the run who falls into his arms. Keep her safe while tending to her and healing her.

The one thing he seems unable to do is keep his guard up around her. With her haunted, hunted beauty she knocks down all of his defenses.

Facility Ward knows all about secrets. She was raised in the Witness Protection program and her whole childhood has been one huge lie. What she never imagined that was that her family’s secrets could spark a nuclear war. Secrets she never knew she was keeping.

Even with the life she has led nothing prepared her for the sexy, tough warrior that has saved her life and has now vowed to protect that life no matter what the cost.

This is a story that starts out fast and never stops. The action and romance are non-stop and makes for a book that is hard to put down. The characters are complex and fascinating and they move the plot of the book along very well. It also gives a little glimpse into a history that is long gone. The story will also have readers wanting to read more from this author. The secondary characters prove to add a lot to the story line while not detracting in the least. Readers will want more from this world as they will hate to leave it once the story is over.
