Ryder meets Jason when he is rescuing abandoned and injured dogs found on Jason's job site. Jason has just recently broken up with his girlfriend, and he is not sure about the feelings that are emerging after meeting Ryder. They end up becoming friends, and Jason decides not to fight his feelings any more. Ryder has been disowned by his parents and they won't let him see his younger brother, so the family dynamics written in this were intense and great. Jason has the seemingly wonderful family (and most of them are), but we see that foundation get rocked a little bit with Jason's coming out. I really enjoyed the story, the family dynamics, and the chemistry between Jason and Ryder. ( ) ‘Rescued’ definitely captured my attention from page one. There is a beautiful love story, littered with several obstacles both internal to the characters and in the form of external factors like people who oppose Ryder and Jason becoming more than friends. The characters range from lovable to truly despicable and everything in between. And the pace, while occasionally slow, is just right and adds a layer of realism to the proceedings that I enjoyed. Ryder has more than one reason to be hesitant about having another relationship. He is out and proud, and cannot imagine being in the closet ever again, but it has cost him. His mother kicked him out because he is gay and that does not fit her “requirements” for being an upstanding member of her social circles. His father no longer talks to him, and his younger brother is forbidden to see or contact him. Ryder’s boyfriend left, addicted to drugs, and is now seeing a woman. Ryder manages to deal with all of that – barely – and is planning to focus on his work as a lawyer at the dog rescue. Jason is planning to make the construction company he and his brother started a success – no matter what the personal cost. Not that it turns out to be all that high – even when he dumps his girlfriend. Jason has not really connected with her in years and had begun to ask himself what he saw in her even before the breakup. But what he is not ready for is meeting Ryan when he comes out t help with a group of deserted dogs at Jason’s current construction site. The attraction may be immediate, but Jason is scared to admit what he feels, fearful of what his family will think, and not sure at all how to even be in a relationship with a man. If you like stories about characters who have to overcome a whole range of obstacles before they can be together, if you want to know more about the issues some gay men face with their families when they come out, and if you’re looking for a read that is as occasionally frustrating as it is sweet and funny, then you will probably like this novel. NOTE: This book was provided by the author for the purpose of a review. Cute boys and puppies! Hand to the bible, I am known as The Crazy Dog Lady to friends and family and irritated neighbors, so I'm just a bit of a pit bull fan. A story about a pit bull rescue organization run by a sweet but lonely gay attorney and his two best friends and the sexually confused construction foreman he falls in love with would have to pretty much suck ass for me not to like it. Luckily, newcomer [a:Felice Stevens|8432880|Felice Stevens|https://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1408495531p2/8432880.jpg] knows her shit and killed it with [b:Rescued|22881962|Rescued|Felice Stevens|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1407383664s/22881962.jpg|42450194]. This book had everything. Airhead girlfriend's to rolls your eyes at. Drop dead gorgeous men. Kind, understanding family members who support these boys no matter what. An evil, cold hearted mother you'll love to hate. Screen melting, retina scorching man-on-man sex action. And, OMG, the epilogue brought me TO MY FUCKING KNEES PEOPLE. MY KNEES!!!! KNEES! So. Happy puppies. Hot men. Hotter sex. HEA to the 10th power. Fuck YEAH I recommend this book!
