There is an explanation of Pachamama in the introduction (shown in both Spanish and English) that sets the tone for the book. The stories are culturally centered in South America and are selected to show the rainbow of colorful contrasts this area presents. The folktales are traditional and contemporary at the same time. The tales are broken up into the southern sections of South America - Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay. Written bilingually, the translations are well done. But don't mistake the understanding of a language for an understanding of a culture. Part of the World Folklore series.
