?The story of the man who secured Scotland ?s independence after decades of war is one of the most dramatic in history. In this spectacularly illustrated book, award-winning novelist James Robertson follows the life of Robert the Bruce from his youth through years of hardship and defeat to triumph at the Battle of Bannockburn in 1314, when he led the Scots to a sensational victory over a far larger and better equipped English army. Full of historical detail and imaginative touches, Robert the Bruce: King of Scots brings a fresh perspective to Scotland ?s greatest hero. ? ?Back cover.… (more)

This books provides an interesting introduction to the life of Robert the Bruce, King of Scotland. The narrative is sparse; the illustrations powerful. I am left wondering, though, who the intended audience is. The amount and depth of information is most often found in books addressed to children, but the content and pictures are rather violent. I am also left with a desire to read more about Robert the Bruce and William Wallace. ( )
